Not enough time? Do these to add extra hours to your day | Time management tips
We all know that time is the most valuable resource we could ever have. And most of us complain about one thing: that we don't have enough time. Want to know why?
The truth is that we do have enough time. The problem is that we don't know how to manage it. Proper time management truly adds extra hours to our day. Follow these rules to practice proper time management and add extra time to your life.
What is time management?
Time management, in simple words, means planning your tasks and activities in a proper way to make the most use of your time. The activities include:
- Future goals
- School work
- Work deadlines
Properly setting time for tasks will give us a plan on what and when to do them.
Simple time management involves the following things:
1. Setting clear goals
Having a set of clear and achievable goals should be your first priority. This gives us an idea of how much time should be given for each goal.
- Bigger goals, like building an aesthetic body in the gym should be given a longer time, whereas smaller goals, like completing a document, should be given a shorter time.
2. Prioritising tasks
Not all the goals that you want to achieve are important and have to be completed as soon as possible. Try to categorise your goals into
- Urgent/ important - first priority
- Important/ not urgent - long-term goals
- Urgent/ not important - personal tasks
- Neither - last priority
This gives you an idea of what should be more focused on.
3. Planning your day
Time blocking means giving some fixed duration to do a particular task. Giving specific time slots for tasks helps us avoid
- Procrastination
- Multi tasking
- Confusion
So, take a piece of paper and write down your schedule for the day.
Note: You can avoid writing down minute tasks like having a nap or taking a snack at the start, as too much schedule can cause mental stress.
4. Using technology
You can use various digital sources for scheduling both on your PC and on your smartphone.
Google Calendar is the most simple tool for scheduling your day. You can add a few tasks that you'd do that day and can also save long-term goals as events.
There are also other task management apps available. Comment down your best suggestion.
5. Limiting distractions
Lastly, distractions are the major problem with time management. The first day of following your newly drawn schedule would go well, but you'll soon start losing track of your schedule due to tiny distractions like:
- Watching reels on Instagram
- Netflix and other content platforms
- Gossiping with others
And many more.
So, try to limit your distractions as much as possible. This is the reason why I have told you to keep your first schedule simple with fewer tasks, as tight schedules are hard to follow.
By doing these 5 things, you have made yourself a productive time management system, and by following the schedule with discipline and consistency, you are on your way to turning your goals into reality.
